Second Skin Aftercare

Your second skin bandage will fill with blood, ink, and plasma; this is completely normal. Keep your tattoo out of the sun and do not submerge it in water. You can still shower with the bandage on, just avoid long hot showers. Avoid the gym or strenuous activities that will make you sweat.

When your tattoo begins to feel dry under the bandage OR if your bandage peels or leaks prematurely, it is time to remove your second skin. The bandage keeps all the good in and the bad out, so if there is any openings in your bandage you will need to remove it.

To remove your second skin, take a long hot shower to help break down the adhesive. While still in the shower slowly peel your second skin off. Then wash your tattoo well with unscented soap and pat dry with paper towel.

Keep your tattoo clean and only moisturize if your tattoo feels dry. You can use unscented lotion, coconut oil, or a tattoo salve. Remember to use light layers. Do not pick, peel, or scratch your tattoo. After your tattoo is no longer peeling, you can begin applying sunscreen if/when needed.

Traditional Aftercare

Your tattoo will be wrapped with plastic wrap or a soaker pad. Leave this wrap on for a few hours. When the wrap is ready to come off, remove it in the shower, and promptly wash your tattoo with unscented soap. Pat dry with a paper towel.

Depending on the size of the tattoo, you may be instructed to continue to wrap your tattoo for multiple days.

Wash 1-3 times a day with unscented antibacterial soap, keep your tattoo clean. Only moisturize when your tattoo is dry. You can use unscented lotion, coconut oil, or tattoo salve. Remember to use light layers, do not over moisturize. Your tattoo should be shiny not glossy and thick.

Do not pick, peel, or scratch your tattoo. Keep your tattoo out of the sun. Do not submerge your tattoo in water. Showering is okay, wash your tattoo last. Avoid the gym and strenuous tattoo for the first few days. After your tattoo is no longer peeling you can begin to apply sunscreen if/when needed.
